With every lyric a confession, with every note a reminder of what it means to be alive.

An acoustic artist and maternal health advocate using music to tell the truth about pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.

About Emma MArie

Emma Marie is an acoustic singer-songwriter with a soulful, gospel-tinged voice and one of the UK’s most distinctive, emerging voices voices in maternal health. By day she works as a Women’s Health Commissioner in the NHS and serves as a trustee for Maternity Action, a national charity focused on the economic realities of pregnancy. By night, in the small hours between family life and school runs, she writes songs.

Her music draws on the everyday intimacy of pregnancy, birth, and parenthood; the moments of joy, grief, uncertainty, and wonder that rarely make it into clinical conversations but live permanently in the bodies and memories of mothers. As a Black British woman, she writes with a particular awareness of the inequalities that shape who gets heard, who gets believed, and who gets safe care.

The Mumdane Life is her ongoing series of acoustic films and live performance - honest, warm, and quietly radical - that give those experiences a voice.
